This is the season of traditions and Harbor Hills has a few traditions of its own. Twenty-six years ago, Harbor Hills’ premier golf event, the Sider Cup, was created as a tribute to the Ryder Cup. Two golf members, Bram Decker and Ray Goldwire, established an event that would be fun for existing members and welcoming for new members. The first Sider Cup tournament was held in 1994.
Our entire Harbor Hills golfing community gathers together to enjoy the ten day event. This year, the captain of the Blue team is Mike Reyome and the Red team captain is Joe Pulsone. Their respective co-captains are Bill Collier and Bill Bogert.
Pairings will be announced at tonight’s Captain’s Dinner. MGA President Dave DeCoster explains that the three-day matches begin Wednesday, October 14 with a first round, alternate shot format. Second round is four ball/better ball on Friday, October 16. The exciting final round format is single matches followed by a celebratory banquet on Sunday, October 18.
The annual Ladies Red/Blue Tournament has become an integral part of Sider Cup festivities. The ladies will be off to a shotgun start on Thursday, October 15th.
Speaking of traditions, limited seating is available for Harbor Hills’ extraordinary Thanksgiving buffet. All safety precautions will be in place including social distancing. My family never misses this celebration and this challenging year will be no exception. The buffet is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features all the traditional favorites and more. Open to the public, the cost for adults is $35.95 plus service and tax. Unlimited champagne and mimosas for $8! The spectacular view from the clubhouse makes this holiday very special.
