THE BLUEBIRDS OF HARBOR HILLS BY NIKKI HOFFMAN

THE BLUEBIRDS OF HARBOR HILLS

Harbor Hills Country Club is situated at the highest elevation level in North Central Florida. It is adjacent to Lake Griffin, a 5,200-acre lake. With golf, boating, tennis, and walking paths, there is something exciting and fun for everyone.

While the views are breathtaking, Harbor Hills residents take full advantage of our private dock and water access. The Lake Harris chain has 76,000 boatable acres. The fishing is excellent, and the many waterfront restaurants provide panoramic views. It seems only fitting to have activities centered around this unique area. Several Harbor Hills clubs enjoy trips and social events on the water year-round.

Flocks of snowy egrets and sandhill cranes stroll gracefully through our neighborhoods. Follow the walking paths, and you will notice the nest boxes perched several feet above the ground. Thirty boxes are scattered throughout our community. These habitats provide a welcoming home for our bluebirds. They lay about five light blue eggs in each nest from mid-February through mid-July. In two weeks, the eggs hatch. The fledglings leave the nest 15-20 days later. We estimate that 150 bluebird babies are added to our community annually.

Download the free Merlin app from Google Play or the Apple App Store to identify more of our local birds by photo and sound. Over 10,000 birds can be identified with comprehensive online data from Cornell University’s Lab of Ornithology.

Ready to experience all that our community has to offer? Contact our Membership Director, Christy Rich, at 352-753-7000 for details on our affordable summer membership.
