GOLF FOR ALL AGES BY NIKKI HOFFMAN
Gary Player was the first golfer to recognize the benefits of physical fitness in the game. To stay competitive, Player devoted himself to proper nutrition, strength, and conditioning. At 88 years old, he is the poster child for long-term fitness. From his Masters win in 1961 to the Senior Player Championships, Player is a self-proclaimed fitness buff.
Tom Leimberger, Harbor Hills Director of Golf, agrees. “Golf fitness improves flexibility, range of motion, and balance. These critical factors increase swing speed, which results in greater distance.”
Junior players are the future of the game, and Harbor Hills is delighted to welcome US Kids Golf to our community. A strong turnout of talented youngsters will fill our championship course on April 27th. The organization has been named the premier golf competition for youth in the world. More than 20,000 players compete in 1,600 tournaments yearly. Local, state, regional, and international competitions culminate in the World Championships at Pinehurst. The Harbor Hills Racquet Association-sponsored Tennis Club Championships have concluded their round-robin doubles play. Now, the thrilling championship playoffs are in full swing. The top four teams in each of the three divisions (Gentlemen, Ladies, and Mixed) will play a sudden-death semifinal. The winners will then play for the club championship. The anticipation is high as a ceremonial trophy cup will be presented to the champions at the close of their final matches. The champions' names will join the ranks of former winners on a plaque displayed in the HHCC Clubhouse trophy case.
