MEMORIAL DAY REMINDERS BY NIKKI HOFFMAN
“Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it. It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it.” Memorial Day reminds us to be good stewards to ensure that the sacrifices of our veterans and families truly count. Stewardship includes caring for our land, resources and most of all, people.Festivities in Harbor Hills include an early dedication at our clubhouse and a golf tournament to follow. To conclude the special day, our chef is providing a traditional Memorial Day cookout, complete with all our favorites!Consider honoring your veteran with the purchase of a memorial brick. Each brick is placed within a kaleidoscope of names and military emblems that surround our serene Veteran’s Park. Shirle Mabie, Garden & Women’s Club president, explains that funds from brick sales help pay for maintenance and upgrades to the park which overlooks our picturesque 16thgreen. There was an exciting one-hole playoff, with three members tied for the championship. Congratulations to our 2021-2022 season champion Diane Raymond, besting Carol Bowers and Lu Pulsone.I, too also have a reason to celebrate. On May 25, 2015 my first article as Harbor Hills community columnist was published in The Villages Daily Sun. It has been a delight to bring you the news of this distinctive community for the last seven years. Many thanks to my kind readers, the Daily Sun editorial staff and the developer of Harbor Hills, Michael Rich. Apart from the great American novel I have yet to write, this has been a dream come true
