Service. Scholarship. Determination. What connects these attributes? Jackie Croft can tell you. She is the director of the Miss Lake County Florida pageant. The nonprofit pageant promotes community service and helps develop the skills needed to become tomorrow’s leaders. “The most important benefit of the competition lies in community service, raising awareness and inspiring others,” Jackie said. She has been a significant guide, mentoring the girls on their life journey.The reigning Miss Lake County Florida, ShaKira Huff, attends Hillsborough College in Tampa. After earning her AA degree, she will transfer to the University of South Florida, majoring in Exercise Science. Her goal is to become an athletic trainer for the NFL.Along with her court, ShaKira represents Lake County at charity events and community programs. The girls participate in food drives and teacher appreciation days. They perform random acts of kindness and enjoy reading to elementary students. Every effort is made to reach one hundred hours of community service, earning the Presidential Volunteer Service Award and carrying on the pageant’s legacy of selflessness and service.On Saturday, August 12, Harbor Hills Country Club will host the Miss Lake County Scholarship Golf Tournament. All proceeds are designated for college scholarships. Registration opens at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The cost of $100 per golfer includes the tournament and lunch.
