CELEBRATE ITALY WITH A VENETIAN MASQUERADE BY NIKKI HOFFMAN

Known as The City On Water, Venice sits on over 100 small islands connected by more than 400 bridges. During Europe’s Renaissance period, Venice was a both a cultural center and the capital of a prosperous maritime empire. Even today, boats are the only transportation through the winding network of canals. On November 5, the Italian American Club of Harbor Hills will be recreating the spirit of this unique city with a fantastical Venetian Masquerade event. It’s a black tie optional event that will take you on an unforgettable adventure to Venice. Chairperson Carol DiDomenico explains that ornate masks are optional but the more creative and elaborate the better!Local favorite Suzie Casta will entertain us with her popular songs, many in Italian. The plated dinner includes multiple choices of Italian dishes from different regions of Italy; Pork Osso Buco, Haddock Puttanesca and Lasagna Stuffed Chicken. For dessert, the iconic Italian dessert of tiramisu will be served. The literal meaning of tiramisu in Italian is “pick me up” or “cheer me up.”  What an uplifting way to end the meal! The event is already sold out. There is still time to be added to the waiting list. Call the clubhouse at 352-753-7000.Created in 2009, the Italian American Club of Harbor Hills welcomes all country club members of Italian heritage. The advent of COVID has impacted events but things are improving as the season goes on. Club President Joe Cervoni is looking forward to homemade culinary delights at monthly meetings and local excursions. Yearly dues are $5 per person.
