THE COURTS OF HARBOR HILLS BY NIKKI HOFFMAN
Happy Thanksgiving! David and I hope to see you at the fabulous Harbor Hills buffet on Thursday. Our popular racquet sports center is a short walk from the clubhouse.
The tennis courts of Harbor Hills are home to the Eagles tennis team of the First Academy High School in Leesburg. Head coach Miah O’Cain explains that our well-maintained Har-Tru clay courts provide an excellent playing surface. “The Harbor Hills staff has been such an accommodating and welcoming host for our athletes,” she says.
Not to be outdone by the youngsters, the Fifth Annual Tennis Doubles Championship, sponsored by the Harbor Hills Racquet Association, is in full swing! Round-robin matches take place in three divisions: ladies' doubles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles. The championship matches are held Mondays and Fridays for Men’s Doubles (8-10 AM) and Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (10 AM to Noon) for the Ladies.
In April, the top four teams play in a sudden-death semifinal. Winners then play for the championship, bragging rights, and the coveted trophy cup.
The Opening Day tournament of our Intercommunity Tennis Competition began with a Harbor Hills win against Highland Lakes. The next friendly match was a home game against Summit Green. Summit took the honors, making Harbor Hills 1-1 for the first two matches. Watch this column for the results of the December 7th match vs. Kings Ridge at home.
Inspired to dust off your racquet? Our teaching tennis pro, Ron Eddy, is on-site on Fridays. Private and semi-private lessons, drills, and clinics are available. For information, text Ron at 931-200-1772.
