UNIVERSITY STUDENT-ATHLETES COMPETE AT HARBOR HILLS BY NIKKI HOFFMAN

Brandeis University, Carnegie Mellon, Case Western Reserve, Emory, NYU, University of Chicago, University of Rochester and Washington University in St. Louis. What do these eight prestigious universities have in common? They belong to an elite organization called the University Athletic Association (UAA). Founded in 1986, the UAA is an American athletic conference competing in the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division III. All member schools are private and ranked in the top fifty national research universities.The objective is simple. Academic focus is the foundation for the student-athlete.  At the same time, seeking excellence in athletics is valuable preparation for life.The UAA sponsors events in twenty-three sports, twelve sports for men and eleven sports for women. Competitive sports include cross country, swimming and diving, indoor and outdoor track and field and golf. The Association selects UAA male and female Athletes of the Week in all sports.The championship golf course at Harbor Hills Country Club is honored to host a two-day golf competition for UAA athletes from these five universities: NYU, Carnegie Mellon, Washington University-St. Louis, Emory and Rochester. Harbor Hills’ Director of Golf, Tom Leimberger, has been working hard with head coaches from each team to insure a superior experience for these talented young people.The competition kicks off Friday with a practice round and a pairing party in the evening. First round matches are played Saturday. The Championship Final and Third Place Match conclude the event on Sunday. The public is encouraged to come out to see these student-athletes play their best.
