FOLDS OF HONOR BY NIKKI HOFFMAN
Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney hosts the Fox Nation series Fly Into The Wind and is a frequent contributor to Fox News. He is a decorated F-16 fighter pilot, author, motivational speaker, television personality, and PGA golf professional.
On one of his return trips from three tours of duty in Iraq, Rooney was touched by the pilot’s announcement that the remains of a national hero and combat fatality were onboard. Rooney calls this his “seminal moment” and the often unseen “other side of war.” He was moved to create a foundation awarding scholarships to the families of fallen service members and first responders. The foundation is called Folds of Honor, reminiscent of the thirteen folds of the American flag presented to bereaved families. “Those who protect our freedoms are not forgotten,” Rooney explains.
Since its creation in 2007, Folds of Honor has provided over 62,000 scholarships totaling more than $250 million. 91% of donated funds go directly to scholarships. Among the students awarded, 45% are minorities.
The First Annual Veteran’s Day Charity Golf Tournament will be held on November 11th at the beautiful Harbor Hills Country Club. It will raise funds and awareness for Folds of Honor. Registration is at 12:30 PM, and the tournament starts at 1 PM. Golf, greens fees and cart, lunch, raffle prizes, and more surprises are $125 per person or $460 per foursome if paid by cash, Venmo or Zelle. Lunch only is $25 per person.
